National Assembly Approves Reference Against Chief Justice of Pakistan

Islamabad: The National Assembly, during a joint session of parliament, approved a resolution to file a reference against Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial. The reference is being prepared by a special parliamentary committee, which includes members from various political parties. Notable members of the committee include Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha, Khurshid Junejo, Salahuddin Ayubi, and Shahnaz Baloch.

The motion to form the committee was introduced by Shazia Sobiya Soomro, seeking action against the Chief Justice over allegations of misconduct. The authority to establish the committee was delegated to the speaker of the National Assembly. Simultaneously, members from different parties are collaborating to draft the terms of reference for the committee.

In the ongoing joint parliament session, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif proposed that parliament should send a reference to the Supreme Judicial Council against the Chief Justice. He emphasized the historical role of parliament in this matter and its responsibility to take appropriate action.
