Aryan Khan Drugs Case: CBI Books Ex-NCB Officer Sameer Wankhede for Threatening SRK’s Family

Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an FIR against Sameer Wankhede, the former zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), alleging that he threatened actor Shah Rukh Khan’s family with framing his son Aryan in a narcotics case unless a payment of ₹25 crore was made. Wankhede gained attention for his involvement in the high-profile Aryan Khan drug case. However, he is now facing allegations of corruption and criminal misconduct.

The FIR filed by the CBI raises concerns over Wankhede’s foreign trips and the acquisition of expensive wristwatches, as they are not sufficiently justified by his declared income. The FIR also mentions Vishwa Vijay Singh and Ashish Ranjan, former senior officers of the NCB, along with KP Gosavi and Sanvile D’Souza as additional accused.

KP Gosavi, the witness in the drugs-on-cruise case, stirred controversy for his selfie with Aryan Khan after his arrest, raising concerns about how an individual not employed with the NCB was granted access to the accused. The FIR highlights that Gosavi was allowed to be present with the accused and even entered the NCB office after the raid, contrary to the norms for an independent witness.

According to the FIR, there was an alleged conspiracy to extort ₹25 crore from Aryan Khan’s family by threatening them with narcotics possession charges. The amount was eventually settled at ₹18 crore, with a portion of the bribe money allegedly returned by KP Gosavi and Sanvile D’Souza.

The CBI has alleged that Wankhede instructed Vishwa Vijay Singh to let KP Gosavi handle the accused, creating a visual impression of custody while escorting Aryan Khan to the NCB office. These allegations align with previous claims made by Nawab Malik, a former Maharashtra minister, and Prabhakar Sail, a witness in the drugs-on-cruise case.

Following his transfer to the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services in Chennai, Wankhede claimed to be “punished for being a patriot,” stating that he was subjected to a search at his residence by CBI officials. Aryan Khan spent 22 days in jail before being cleared of charges due to insufficient evidence. As a result of the high-profile nature of the case, separate investigations were launched into the allegations against Wankhede and his team.
