Tanzania Plane Crash: Death Toll Rises To 19

Dodoma: Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said the toll in the Lake Victoria plane crash on Sunday has risen to 19.

Emergency workers used ropes to pull the ATR-42 aircraft closer to the shore, reported BBC. The flyers included four crew members.

According to reports, the accident was caused due to inclement weather.

Kagera provincial police commander William Mwampaghale was quoted as saying by CNN: “Everything is currently under control.”

“Rescue operations are underway, we have so far rescued several people and eventually we will make sure we have rescued everyone and removed the airplane out of the water. Those who have been rescued have been taken to our referral hospital,” he said.

Reportedly, a passenger plane crashed into Lake Victoria in Tanzania early on Sunday due to bad weather shortly before landing in the northwestern city of Bukoba.

Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched and so far at least 15 people have been rescued.
