World Sanskrit Day Today, Know Its Significance

Every year World Sanskrit Day is celebrated on the full moon day of the Indian traditional calendar’s Shravan month. It is the day to honour one of the world’s oldest languages which is the base of Indian culture and heritage. This day is the birth anniversary of Maharshi Panini.

This year World Sanskrit Day is being observed on August 31.

This day is observed for awareness and promotion of Sanskrit language which is also considered the Dev Vani (language of the Gods).

All major scriptures of Hinduism and India like the Vedas, Upanishads, and Bhagavad Gita are written in Sanskrit.

World Sanskrit Day has been celebrated by the government of India since 1969 as a tribute to the renowned Sanskrit scholar Paṇini and his legacy.

Sanskrit is the Indo-Aryan language that has its footprints not only in the Indian subcontinent but has also extended to continents like Europe. Sanskrit is well known for contribution to languages like Greek and Latin.
