Liquor Shop Fined Rs 10000 for Promising ‘Spoken English’ to Attract Customers in MP

Bhopal: A liquor shop owner in Madhya Pradesh was fined Rs 10,000 for putting up an advertisement that highlighted the general tendency of people to speak in English while in an inebriated state.

The liquor shop owner had put up a banner with the message “Dindahade English Bolna Seekhen (learn to speak English during daytime)” near his shop at Nachankheda in Burhanpur district. An arrow below the message pointed at the liquor shop.

A photo of the banner went viral on social media.

When it came to the notice of the district administration, on Saturday, Burhanpur District Collector directed the Excise Department to take action against the liquor shop.

The excise department served a notice to the liquor shop licensee. In his reply, the shop owner claimed that some other person had placed the banner as part of a conspiracy. But the officials termed his reply unsatisfactory and fined him Rs 10,000 for flouting the conditions of his liquor licence.
