All Schools in J&K Military Posts Closed Amid Terror Threat

Srinagar: All schools located inside Army posts were closed after a red alert was issued along the Jammu-Pathankot route as a result of intelligence input suggesting a terrorist strike on Wednesday. On Tuesday night, parents of kids at the Army, Air Force, and Kendriya Vidalayas (located on military premises) got SMS messages advising them not to send their children to school due to security concerns.

As a precaution, all schools on military bases in Jammu, Kathua, Samba (J&K), and Pathankot (Punjab) were closed, according to sources.

In light of the threat input, security has been stepped up in the area. Additionally, BSF increased patrols in the districts of Kathua, Samba, and Jammu along the international border with Pakistan. According to sources, there have been reports of terrorists backed by Pakistan planning attacks before and during the G20 Summit in Srinagar. One such meeting is also being held in Leh, Ladakh.

Despite intensive searches by the Army and security forces in the twin border districts, the Pakistani terrorist groups that had target-killed seven civilians (including two children) in Rajouri, a Hindu-dominated village, on January 1 and five soldiers in Poonch district on April 20 remain at large. Although civilians were alerted to their movement, efforts to find them have been fruitless.
