Bengal Man Booked for Circulating Fake News Against Chief Justice DY Chandrachud

Kolkata: A case was filed against a man from West Bengal’s Krishnagar for allegedly circulating fake news on social media to defame the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, according to the police.

The man was identified as Sujit Haldar. The West Bengal Police reported that Haldar’s actions were intended to “intentionally defame” the Chief Justice and “undermine the dignity of the Supreme Court,” with the goal of inciting public distrust and disturbing peace.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation.

This follows a recent complaint in Delhi involving a fake social media post, where someone impersonated Chief Justice Chandrachud, claiming to need Rs 500 for a taxi. The post, which went viral, purportedly showed the impersonator stranded at Connaught Place and requesting money for an urgent meeting at the Supreme Court.

The investigation into Haldar’s case is underway.
