Congress Prez Poll: Year-Old Party To Get Non-Gandhi Chief in 24 years Today

New Delhi: With the senior party leaders–Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor in the fray for the top party post, the counting of votes for the Congress president election will be held at party headquarters in New Delhi today.

The Congress is set to get a new president with the counting to take place from 10 am. The result is likely to be declared between 3 pm to 4 pm.

Reportedly, around 9,900 party delegates casted their votes in 36 polling stations across the country on October 17.

The ballot boxes from the state headquarters have reached the counting place in the Congress office.

The polling took place by way of a “secret ballot”. The ballot papers and ballot boxes were dispatched by the CEA and elaborate arrangements were made at PCC offices for polling day.

The “secret ballot” polling process ensured that no one will know who voted for whom.

Congress sources said the elected president will take charge after Diwali in the presence of senior leaders in a programme at the Congress headquarters.
