Constable’s Rs 50 Lakh Robbery in ‘Special 26’ Style in Kolkata; Arrested

Kolakata: Taking a cue from the movie ‘Special 26’, a police constable allegedly planned up a cunning Rs 50 lakh robbery in the Bhawanipore area of Kolkata. But unlike the movie, he was arrested by Kolkata police on Monday.

According to police sources, a group of men posing as CBI officers had “raided” a businessman’s residence in Bhawanipore in December 2022. This gang of fake CBI officers managed to escape from the spot with Rs 50 lakh in cash and jewellery.

Investigation revealed that a constable of the Kolkata Police’s Special Branch was the mastermind behind the crime. As per investigating police officials, this arrested constable had “trained 12 persons” to carry out the raid and the subsequent robbery.

The accused was arrested from North 24 Parganas district.
