Security Review Reveals Flaws Ahead of Independence Day and G20 in Delhi

New Delhi: In the lead-up to India’s 77th Independence Day on August 15, 2023, and the upcoming G20 event, Delhi Police have conducted security audits across the National Capital. The Special Cell of Delhi Police has identified approximately 100 locations with security vulnerabilities, including hotels, guest houses, busy markets, taxi stands, parking lots, cyber cafes, PG accommodations, cinema halls, and malls.

A comprehensive review conducted between July 27 and 29, 2023, revealed significant shortcomings in these areas. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, HQ &TYR, Special Cell, Delhi, has promptly issued a directive to address these security flaws.

The order emphasizes that local police officials must take action to rectify these issues and ensure compliance. A detailed report on the corrective measures taken is to be submitted for review by senior officers. If any areas fall outside their jurisdiction, officials are instructed to forward the information to the relevant District/Unit.

The focal point of the Independence Day celebrations will be the historic Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will proudly hoist the National Flag and deliver a significant address to the nation. As the nation prepares for this momentous occasion, ensuring the security of various public spaces is paramount, and the Delhi Police are taking proactive steps to enhance safety measures across the National Capital.
