DRI Seizes Over 24 kg Gold Smuggled from B’desh; 8 Accused Arrested

New Delhi: Through operation Eastern Gateway, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), has seized more than 24 kilograms of gold that was being attempted to be smuggled out of Bangladesh.

According to the Finance Ministry, DRI started Operation Eastern Gateway to bust the smuggling modus operandi.

Huge amounts of gold were being smuggled from Bangladesh to India over the Indo-Bangladesh border in the state of Tripura by a syndicate with offices in Bangladesh, Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal.

Eight members of the syndicate were arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.

According to the Ministry, DRI has seized more than a thousand kg of gold so far this fiscal year.
