ED Seizes Rs 40 Lakh Cash During Raid on Bengal Minister’s Home in Teachers’ Recruitment Scam

Kolkata: Officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized cash worth Rs 40 lakh during the raid on the residence of the West Bengal cabinet minister and Trinamool Congress leader Chandra Nath Sinha.

ED conducted a marathon raid in connection with the teachers’ recruitment scam, which ended on Friday night.

As Sinha failed to explain the source of the Rs 40 lakh cash, it was seized. The ED also confiscated the minister’s mobile phone as evidence.

The Enforcement Directorate conducted raids in several places in Bengal in connection with the teachers’ recruitment scam, including Chandranath Sinha’s residence in Bolpur in Birbhum district.

The raid on the minister’s home continued for about 13 hours and ended at 10.30 pm on Friday. Raids in connection with the case were also conducted in Kolkata.

It is alleged that transactions of several crores of rupees were made in the teachers’ recruitment scam.

Earlier, former Bengal Education Minister, Partha Chatterjee, along with others associated with the education department were arrested in the teachers’ recruitment scam.

The teachers’ recruitment scam, according to the CBI, involves over Rs 100 crore that the agency alleged was raised by Trinamool Congress from job aspirants between 2014 and 2021. The appointees had allegedly paid tribes ranging from Rs 5 lah to Rs 15 lakh for jobs after failing the entrance exams.
