Heavy Rains Halt Amarnath Yatra on Both Routes Temporarily

Srinagar: Because of heavy rains in the area, the Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended on both routes to the cave shrine on Saturday.

This step was taken as a precautionary measure for the safety of the pilgrims as heavy rainfall has been occurring along the Baltal and Pahalgam routes since Friday night.

The number of devotees who have visited the 3,800-metre-high cave shrine has already crossed 1.50 lakh.

The Amarnath Yatra began on June 29.  Pilgrims reached the hill shrine using the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal.

Amaranth Yatra will conclude on August 19.

In 2023, more than 4.5 lakh pilgrims visited the cave shrine.
