India Issues Notice To Pakistan Over Modification Of Indus Waters Treaty

New Delhi: Pakistan has received a notice from India regarding modification in the Indus Waters Treaty.

The notice was served on the 25th of this month, per the sources, by the appropriate Indus Waters Commissioners.

India has urged Pakistan to start intergovernmental talks within 90 days to address the treaty’s material breach.

Sources claim that Pakistan’s activities have had a negative impact on the provisions and their application. It compelled India to provide Pakistan with the proper notice in order to modify the Indus Water Treaty. India has consistently been a committed ally and partner in putting the treaty into effect in law and spirit. Throughout the five meetings of the Permanent Indus Commission from 2017 to 2022, Pakistan rejected the dispute settlement mechanism despite India’s continuous attempts to establish a mutually beneficial solution.
