The three students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh arrived in the US just ten days ago after getting admission to Governors State University in Chicago.

In Chicago, they had rented a place together and were residing there. The group went shopping for a router for an Internet connection on Sunday night. Two armed robbers stopped them on their approach to a shopping centre. The students were told to surrender their cell phones by the miscreants. Even the PIN to unlock the phones was asked to be shared.

Additionally, the thieves stole money from the students. The armed men started shooting as they fled the site. Laxman somehow avoided getting shot, while Devasnh and Sai Charan did.

When the victims called the police, they arrived quickly and rushed the injured to the hospital. Devansh passed away while receiving medical treatment.

Sai Charan was admitted to the University Medical Centre. He was reportedly out of danger.

Charan, a BHEL employee in Hyderabad, arrived in Chicago on January 13 to pursue an MS.
