Court Orders Arrest of Former MP Jaya Prada in Election Code Violation Cases

New Delhi: A non-bailable warrant has been issued against former Rajya Sabha MP and Bollywood actress Jaya Prada by the MP/MLA court in Rampur. This marks the seventh time a warrant has been issued for her arrest after she repeatedly failed to appear for court hearings in cases related to alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Prada, who contested the 2019 polls from Rampur on a BJP ticket, faces charges in two separate cases registered at the Camri and Swar police stations. The prosecution has completed its testimony, and the court requires Prada’s statement under Section 313 of the CrPC.

Despite multiple court summons, Prada has consistently skipped hearings, prompting the issuance of warrants. The latest warrant, issued on February 13th, 2024, empowers the Rampur Police Superintendent to arrest her and present her in court.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for February 27th. It remains to be seen whether Prada will appear in court this time or face arrest.
