Kejriwal Joins Protesting Wrestlers; Launches Veiled Attack At Centre

New Delhi: Delhi CM met the protesting wrestlers and urged people to join them in their protest.

Following a Supreme Court order and after wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat, among others, approached the court alleging police inaction for an extended period of time, the Delhi Police yesterday filed two FIRs against the Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharma over alleged sexual harassment and manipulation of funds.

The wrestlers want Singh, who is also a BJP MP, to be arrested and have not ended their week-long protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

“The athletes represented India with pride on the world stage. However, they have been compelled to protest at Jantar Mantar for a week now. Why? Because a prominent politician allegedly did wrong things to women and our sisters who have made the nation proud, Kejriwal told reporters while he was surrounded by wrestlers at Jantar Mantar.

Kejriwal declared, “Every citizen who loves this country stands with the wrestlers,” adding that the central government ought to support the wrestlers in their conflict with the BJP MP.

“All these female athletes who have brought laurels for the nation are our daughters; they must get justice. The culprit should receive the stringent punishment possible, regardless of how strong he may be,” Kejriwal tweeted.
