Kerala Monsoon Onset Delayed by 3-4 Days: IMD Update

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recently announced a delay of three to four days in the arrival of the monsoon in Kerala. Initially projected to reach the state by June 4, it is now expected to make its onset by June 7.

In a statement released on Monday, the IMD highlighted the favourable conditions for the monsoon, including an increase in westerly winds over the south Arabian Sea and the growing cloud mass over the Southeast Arabian Sea.

These conditions are anticipated to improve further in the next 3-4 days, as per the weather agency. The IMD is closely monitoring the situation and will provide timely updates.

In the previous years, the monsoon rains arrived in Kerala on May 29 in 2022, June 3 in 2021, and June 1 in 2020. However, the IMD has not yet announced the expected onset of the monsoon in other parts of the country.
