Smriti Irani, Rahul Gandhi Shower Diwali Gifts on Amethi Voters Hinting at 2024 faceoff

New Delhi: The BJP MP of Amethi, Smriti Irani and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sent Diwali best wishes and gifts to the voters in Amethi. This hinted that both leaders are interested to contest against each other in Amethi in the coming Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

Rahul Gandhi, the three-time former MP of Amethi was defeated by BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019.

According to reports, Smriti Irani sent mobile phones, wall clocks and sarees to the inhabitants of Amethi as Diwali gift. Rahul Gandhi’s Diwali gift for Amethi residents was pairs of shirt and trousers along with sweets.

BJP spokesperson in Amethi, Govind Chauhan claimed that Smriti Irani’s gifts were distributed among the socially downtrodden, poor, and physically challenged people.

Meanwhile, a video of BJP’s former Amethi president Daya Shankar Yadav has gone viral, in which is saying that people need to reciprocate the gifts by giving their votes to Smriti Irani, who was like their “didi” and “beti”.

The Congress district president of Amethi, Pradeep Singh said that the gifts from Rahul were sent to around 5,000 households in the constituency.
