Swiggy Raises Platform Fee for Food Orders

Swiggy, the popular online food delivery platform, has raised its platform fee from Rs 2 to Rs 3 for food orders. According to a company spokesperson, this increase is not a significant departure from industry standards, as platform fees are common in the service sector.

The Rs 3 platform fee now applies to most cities where Swiggy operates, but it does not apply to Instamart orders.

Swiggy introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 per order in April 2023, regardless of the order’s value. In August 2023, competitor Zomato also raised its platform fee to Rs 3 per order, up from the initial Rs 2. Zomato had initially exempted Zomato Gold users from this fee.

In other news, Swiggy has been actively supporting restaurant owners through its capital assistance program. Since its launch in 2017, this program has facilitated over Rs 450 crore in loan disbursement to more than 8,000 restaurant owners. In 2022 alone, 3,000 restaurant owners benefited from this financial support, bridging the financing gap and empowering them to thrive in the industry.
