Two Men Die After Drinking Liquor from Tamil Nadu State-Run Bar

Thanjavur: Two individuals lost their lives on Sunday after consuming alcohol purchased from a state government-run bar in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.

The incident has sparked outrage among the public, further intensifying concerns about the safety and quality of liquor sold by the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC).

This unfortunate event follows closely after another set of incidents where 13 people lost their lives due to consuming spurious liquor in different parts of Tamil Nadu.

The victims, identified as Kuppusamy (68), a fish seller from Kizhavasal, and Vivek (38) from Pumanravathan Koyil Street, had both bought liquor from TASMAC. After consuming the alcohol, Kuppusamy collapsed at his shop, with witnesses reporting the presence of foam around his mouth. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead.

Similarly, the second victim collapsed after leaving the bar and was later declared dead at a hospital.

Furious with the incident, enraged protestors held the officials accountable for the tragedy. They attempted to lock the officials inside the bar premises as a mark of their anger.

However, the police intervened to rescue the officials and quell the rising public outrage. Assurances were given by the police to take appropriate action against those responsible. The incident has led to growing demands for a thorough investigation into the matter.

Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident, including collecting samples of the liquor consumed by the victims to determine if it contained any poisonous substances.

The investigation is currently underway, and more information is expected to emerge as the case progresses.
