US Woman Found Chained to Tree in Maharashtra Forest

A 50-year-old American woman was found chained to a tree in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district on Saturday.

Identified as Lalita Kayi Kumar S, she currently resides in Tamil Nadu but hails originally from the United States. Police believe she was left in the forest by her husband following a domestic dispute.

Her cries for help were heard by a local man in Sonurli village, who alerted the cops. Upon arrival, police discovered her leg chained to a tree. After being rescued, she received initial medical attention at a primary healthcare centre in Sawantwadi and was later transferred to a more advanced facility in Oros for further treatment.

Doctors reported that the woman, who appears to have psychiatric issues, communicated by writing about her health conditions on paper. In a video from the hospital, she claimed she had been without food for 40 days and accused her husband of abandoning her after a quarrel.

A Maharashtra Police official stated that no FIR has been filed yet, but an investigation is ongoing. The woman is currently too weak to give a formal statement due to her condition and recent heavy rains in the area.
