Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Makes His RS Chairmanship Debut

New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar presided over the Rajya Sabha (RS) as Chairman for the first time on the first day of the winter session of Parliament.

Dhankhar received a thunderous welcome when he entered his chamber prior to the session because Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge were both there to greet him.

“The country is welcoming you at a time when the “Amrit Kal” is starting and the country has the G20 presidency,” Prime Minister Modi said. “You are the son of a farmer and a student of a Sainik school, the House has got you as the head at this key phase,” he added.

Jaishankar, the minister of External Affairs, will address the Rajya Sabha during its 258th session.

He will speak on the “Latest Developments in India’s Foreign Policy,” an RS bulletin said.

Further, the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, which was adopted by the Lok Sabha, will be amended by a bill that will be introduced by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav.
