Will Chandrayaan-3 Lander, Rover Wake Up on Sept 22 After 2 Week Lunar Night, All Fingers Crossed

New Delhi: The two-week-long lunar night will end on September 22 at the lunar South Pole, where the lander and rover of Chandrayaan-3 are parked.

On September 2, ISRO announced on X that it has “safely parked” lander Vikram and rover Pragyan in sleep mode next to each other with its scientific instruments turned off.

ISRO had said that the battery of the lander-rover duo was fully charged and the solar panel was oriented to receive the light at the next sunrise expected on September 22, 2023.

But the question remains, will the instruments of Chandrayaan-3 survive the extremely low temperature of the lunar South Pole during the long night to wake up again on September 22.

ISRO had said if they did not wake up on September 22, then they “will forever stay there as India’s lunar ambassador.”

ISRO had said that Vikram Lander had “exceeded mission objectives”.

After soft landing on August 23, the Vikram lander and Pragyan Rover are at the Shiv Shakti point near the moon’s South Pole.
