142 Killed, 6745 Arrested: Manipur Govt’s Report to Supreme Court

New Delhi: During the past two month’s ethnic violence in Manipur, a total of 142 people have been killed, the Manipur government informed the Supreme Court on Monday in its fresh status report.

This fresh status report was filed before the bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha.

As per this status report, as many as 5,995 FIRs have been filed in relation to the violent incidents and 6,745 persons have been taken into custody. Six cases have been transferred to the CBI, the state government told the apex court.

The state has seen as many as 5,000 incidents of arson since May. Imphal East and Imphal West districts have reported the maximum number of deaths.

As many as 124 coys of paramilitary forces and 184 Army columns are deployed in Manipur, the state government told the court.

Internet connectivity in the state has been suspended for two months now.

The Supreme Court had last week asked the Manipur government to file an updated report.
