2 Children Among 5 Killed as Car Hits Parked Truck in Balangir

Balangir: Five persons, including two children, lost their lives when the car they were traveling in crashed into a parked truck on Sambalpur-Bolangir National Highway No. 26 near Chuinbandha in Balangir district at around 11.00 pm on Tuesday.

The deceased included the driver of the car, Atmaj Nayak (25), his sister Ipsita Sai (27), Ipsita’s daughter Riya (6), Atmaj’s uncle Deeptiranjan Sai (35) and Deeptiranjan’s daughter Anvi (6).

Atmaj’s mother Arati (47) and Deeptiranjan’s wife Rasmita (29) were seriously injured. They were admitted to VIMSAR in Burla.

According to sources, the victims were returning home after attending a wedding ceremony in the Agalpur area. The driver of the car lost control and crashed the vehicle into a truck parked on the roadside from the backside.

Five victims died on the spot.

Locals and Fire Services personnel rescued the victims and rushed them to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared five persons ‘brought dead’. Police arrived at the accident site and began an investigation into the incident.
