2 Including Forester Suspended Over Elephant Death in Angul, Poacher Nabbed  

Bhubaneswar: Two forest officials including a forester posted in the Angul district were suspended on charges of dereliction of duty following the discovery of the decomposed body of an elephant in the reserve forest of Jarapada range in the district around a week back.

The Forest initiated the action as an investigation revealed their alleged involvement in the case. Police have also arrested a villager of Rodsinga on charges of stealing the elephant tusks. The dead elephant’s tusk was seized from the possession of the arrested poacher.

On June 28, the decomposed carcass of the elephant was found near the Mankadakanda nullah of Jarapada forest range.

Concerned over the elephant’s death, Angul Regional Chief Conservator of Forest Sudhansu Sekhar Khara and DFO Nitish Kumar along with a team from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology initiated an investigation.
