3 School Students Drown in Devi River in Puri District

Puri: Three school students of Balidia village under Astarang police station drowned while bathing in the Devi river in Odisha’s Puri district on Tuesday.

The mishap occurred while the minors were bathing in the Devi river near the Baldia village. They were swept away into deep water by the strong current and got drowned.

A friend of theirs shouted for help and the locals including the parents of the drowning children rushed to the spot. They managed to rescue the three boys in unconscious condition from the river.

The minors were rushed to a government hospital at Charichhak, where the doctors declared them brought dead.

The deceased were identified as Ayusman Behera (13), Ritesh Behera (14), and Rohan Behera (13), who were students of Class VIII, IX and VIII respectively.

A team from Astarang police station seized the bodies for post-mortem. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation.
