9 Cops Killed In Suicide Bombing In Southwest Pakistan; 13 Injured

At least Nine Pakistani policemen were killed when a suicide bomber crashed his bike into a police truck in southwestern Pakistan on Monday. Thirteen Pak policemen were seriously injured in this suicide attack incident.

Pakistan police spokesman Mehmood Khan Notizai told Reuters that the attack took place in Sibbi, a city some 160 km east of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province.

Kachhi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mahmood Notezai confirmed the casualties to Dawn.com.

“The constabulary van was on its way back to Quetta from Sibi when an explosion occurred on the Kambri bridge in the area bordering the Sibi and Kachhi districts,” he said.

According to the official, a motorcyclist — believed to be a suicide bomber — rammed his vehicle into the police van. However, he said the exact nature of the attack will be ascertained after investigation.

Hospital officials said at least 13 policemen were wounded in the attack, the latest in a series targeting police personnel in Pakistan.

No terrorist group had claimed responsibility for this recent suicide attack. In this area ethnic Baloch guerrillas are fighting the Pakistan government for decades, accusing it of exploiting Balochistan’s rich gas and mineral resources.
