Aahaar Kendras at Hospitals to Remain Open Even on Sundays

Bhubaneswar: From now on the Aahaar centers on the premises of hospitals or nearby will provide food to the needy even on Sundays.

The Odisha Housing & Urban Development Department has directed the commissioner-cum-president of All City Aahaar Societies and collector-cum-president of All District Aahaar Societies to take necessary steps for keeping Aahaar centers in or near hospitals operational on Sundays.

“Considering the difficulties of the patients and attendants coming to the hospitals, it is decided to keep open the Aahaar Kendras operating in or near hospitals on Sundays also,” the letter stated.

Out of a total of 167 Aahaar centers operational across Odisha, 82 are located on the campus of hospitals where people avail quality meals at a cost of only Rs 5. Fifty-eight Aahaar centers serve meals at night hours.

As the Aahaar Kendras remained closed on Sundays, patients or attendants were facing problems to get their food at cheap price. Taking the matter into consideration, the Health and Family Welfare Department had drawn the attention of the Housing & Urban Development Department regarding it.
