Air India cabin Crew Smuggling 1.5 Kg Gold Arrested in Kerala

Kochi: An Air India cabin crew has been arrested at the Kochi Airport on Wednesday for smuggling gold. The arrested Air India staff was identified as Shafi, a native of Wayanad. Customs officials seized 1,487 grams of gold from his possession at Kochi airport.

The Customs department sleuths had received an intelligence report about Shafi smuggling gold in the Bahrain-Kozhikode-Kochi flight service.

The arrested accused had planned up to wrap the gold sheets around his hands and cover them with the sleeves of his shirt to pass through the green channel.

He is being interrogated further to ascertain the link of others in this gold smuggling racket.

Two passengers, who arrived from Singapore, were arrested at Chennai airport on Wednesday for carrying gold weighing 6.8 kg valued Rs 3.32 crore. They arrived in Chennai from Singapore by AI-347 and 6E-52.
