Bihar Thieves Steal 2 Km Railway Track

Patna: It may sound unbelievable, yet unidentified thieves of Bihar have stolen away a 2-kilometer stretch of railway track in the Samastipur district of the state.

The miscreants took advantage of the unused railway track that connected the Lohat sugar mill with the Pandaul railway station. This sugar mill remains unused for the past few years. So, there was no movement of engines or coaches on the railway track connecting the sugar mill.

Railway authorities suspect it was not an overnight theft. The miscreants must have toiled for several days to uproot and take away the 2 Km stretch of railway track. This could not have happened without the support of some local railway staff.

Two personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have been suspended in connection to the case. Samastipur DRM has formed a team to investigate the matter.

It is suspected that as there was no movement on that stretch, the thieves stole the track and sold it to scrap dealers. Thefts of railway scarps are a regular affair in Bihar but this is probably the first time that a 2 km track was stolen. In 2022, Bihar police arrested three people for allegedly stealing diesel and vintage rail engines and unbolting steel bridges.
