Death Toll Rises to 2 in Kendrapada Firecracker Mishap

Kendrapada: Death toll rose to two in Kendrapada Firecracker mishap. A 28-year-old youth succumbs to injuries while undergoing treatment.

The deceased was identified as Pintu Khan. He was undergoing treatment in the ICU of SCB Hospital.

Earlier, another man named Uday Bhoi passed away while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital on Cuttack.

Ten of the critically injured are being treated in the ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital. Many are still battling due to severe burns.

More than 40 people were injured in the mishap. According to sources, the mishap occurred during the immersion ceremony of Kartikeswar in Balia Bazar. A large number of firecrackers that were kept for the ceremony caught fire all of a sudden and burst among the crowd.

The victims were initially rushed to the Kendrapada DHH and later they were shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Three Puja committee members were arrested by the town police on Friday in connection with a firecracker mishap.

Further investigation in connection to the case is underway, sources said.
