Escaped Namibian Cheetah Captured, Shifted to Kuno National Park

Bhopal: Oban, the male Namibian cheetah, which had escaped from Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park was traced and captured. It was transported back to the national park on Thursday.

After escaping out of the Kuno National Park, this Namibian Cheetah showed no interest to return back to the national park even after five days. A team of forest officials rescued it from the forest of Shivpuri district.

Oban is one of the four Namibian cheetahs that were released into the wild at Kuno National Park. It was released into the wild of the national park along with a female cheetah named Asha. Later two more male cheetahs, Elton and Freddie, were also released there.

The forest department team on Thursday tranquilized Oban while it was at Rampura village. Villagers were panicked by its presence. Now Oban has reunited with Asha, Elton and Freddie at Kuno.

A total of 20 cheetahs arrived in India in two batches. The first batch of eight cheetahs from Namibia came in September Namibia Cheetah

South2022 and 12 more from South Africa reached India in February.
