Ex-Central Minister from Rajasthan Quits Congress; Likely to Join BJP

Jaipur: Senior Congress leader of Rajasthan and former Union minister Subhash Maharia quit the party. He is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This was a shocker for the Congress which is facing a tussle between CM Ashok Gehlot and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot ahead of the assembly polls scheduled to be held this year.

He alleged the Congress government led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot failed to fulfill the poll promises and the people, including farmers and youth, were feeling cheated.

“The Congress has forgotten to fulfill its poll promises. They did not waive farmers’ loans nor provide employment for the youth in the state. They are feeling cheated after voting for the Congress,” he said.

Subhash Maharia served as Union Minister of State in the Rural Development Ministry during prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure from 1999 to 2004. He had won thrice from Sikar Lok Sabha constituency — in 1998, 1999 and 2004.

Subhash Maharia was in the BJP in the past and he defected to the Congress in 2016.
