Former Sarpanch Beaten Up with Belt in Public in Jajpur; Video surfaces on Social Media

Jajpur: A former sarpanch was allegedly beaten up with a belt in public in Odisha’s Jajpur district.

According to sources,  Lakshmidhar Sahoo, former Sarpanch of Tarapada GP under Dasarathpur Block in Jajpur district, was brutally attacked by eight youths. It is alleged that the youths included Devdutta Das, Santosh Mohanty and Manas Mohanty of Mangalpur area.

Reportedly they beat him over past political rivalry during panchayat elections.

A video featuring the entire scene went viral on social media.

In the video, one youth is seen attacking the elderly man with a belt and scolding him in abusive language in front of a shop.

Initially, the former sarpanch was seen explaining to the accused regarding the allegations levelled against him. The accused without hearing anything started beating the former Sarpanch with a belt. Later, his associates joined in to humiliate and attack the former sarpanch.

The victim was rescued by his supporters. He was rushed to the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack following primary treatment at Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital.

After getting information about the incident, Jajpur police arrested three prime accused involved in the case and forwarded them to a local court.
