Former Union Minister Sharad Yadav Passes Away at 75

New Delhi: Veteran socialist leader and former Union Minister Sharad Yadav breathed his last on late Thursday evening. He was 75. This mass leader from Bihar was suffering from prolonged illness.

News of his death was informed by his daughter Subhashini Yadav, who said on Facebook “Papa Ab Nahi Rahe,” (Papa is no more).  she said on Facebook.

Sharad Yadav was being treated in Gurugram’s Fortis Hospital.

He was considered a key socialist leader of the country. He was also quite active in Bihar politics.

As a socialist, he was inspired by Jay Prakash Narayan and Ram Manohar Lohia. He also went to jail during the emergency.

His Rajya Sabha tenure ended in June 2022. After vacating his MP quarter at 7 Tughlak Road he shifted to his daughter’s home in the Chattarpur area of South Delhi.

Recently he was part of the RJD and was known to be promoting Tejashwi Yadav as the future leader of the party and Bihar.

In his long political career, Sharad Yadav was Union minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government from 1999 to 2004. He was also the national president of the JD-U.

Sharad Yadav had won Lok Sabha elections seven times. He had reached Lok Sabha four times from Bihar’s Madhepura and twice from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. He was also elected as Lok Sabha MP once from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh as well. He was the first MP to get elected from three states.
