Govt to Prepare SOPs for Safety & Security of Journalists

New Delhi: The Union Government has decided to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) for the safety and security of journalists.

According to reports, the Ministry of Home Affairs will prepare these SOPs under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Home Minister Amit Shah.

The decision has been taken after three assailants posing as journalists killed gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh last night while they were speaking to Journalists.

It is pertinent to note that three assailants allegedly posed as media persons and shot the brothers at close range as they were being escorted to the hospital by police.

Reportedly, the Prayagraj shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. and was captured live on camera, as media persons were following the handcuffed duo being taken to the Calvin Hospital.

Ahmed and his brother, a former MLA, had been taken into police custody on April 13 in connection with the February 24 murder of Umesh Pal, the key witness in the 2005 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Raju Pal. The investigators had kept the brothers at the Dhoomanganj police station.
