Hell Bent to Observe Savitri Vrat Woman Helps Jailed Husband to Escape  

Bhubaneswar: A woman allegedly helped her husband to escape from the jail in Koraput district so that she could observe the Savitri Vrat with him on Friday.

The escapee Chintu Niraki of the Machhakunda area of Koraput district was serving a jail term in Koraput Circle Jail. He managed to escape from police custody on Thursday. He complained of ailment and the jail officials took him to the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital. Dodging the police and jail staff, Chintu managed to escape from the hospital premises.

After a frantic search, police managed to track down Chintu. He was arrested from the Rayagada district late Thursday night. During interrogation, Chintu claimed that his wife had planned his escape. Following it, his wife was also taken into custody for interrogation.

According to sources, Chintu’s wife planned for her husband’s escape from jail as she had decided to observe Savitri Vrat in his presence on Saturday. But her plans were foiled by the police.

In Odisha, Hindu married women observe the Savitri Vrat for the long life and wellbeing of their husbands.
