IIT-Madras Student Commits Suicide; 2nd Incident on Campus in a Month

Chennai: A third-year B Tech student of IIT Madras committed suicide on Tuesday. The deceased was Vaipu Pushpak Sree Sai, hailing from Andhra Pradesh. His body was found hanging in the Alakananda hostel room on the IIT-Madras campus.

This is the second such suicide in a month reported from IIT Madras.

According to police sources, Pushpak didn’t attend classes on Tuesday afternoon. His friends found his room locked from the inside. When they somehow opened the room, they found him hanging.

Kotturpuram Police reached the spot and seized the body for post-mortem.

Following the incident, authorities of IIT Madras formed an internal inquiry committee to look into the incident. “A standing Institute Internal Inquiry Committee, including elected student representatives, which has been recently constituted will look into such incidents,” said the release by IIT Madras.
