Jawan Shot Dead by Colleague Over Leave Issue near Odisha-Chhattisgarh Border

Kanker (Chhattisgarh): A jawan was allegedly shot dead by his colleague at Kanker district headquarters in Chhattisgarh, bordering Odisha’s Malkangiri. The accused allegedly shot teh victim following a quarrel over leave on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Surendra Bhagat and the accused was Purushotam Singh.

According to sources, Surendra and Purushottam were deployed at PG College in the Kanker district headquarters to guard the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Purushottam applied for leave some days ago. On the ground of ill health, he had got permission for leave.

They had a quarrel over leave on Sunday morning. The scene turned ugly. Singh lost his cool and opened fire at Surendra from his service INSAS rifle.

Surendra died on the spot.

After receiving information, police reached the spot and arrested the accused.

A case was registered and police have started to probe.
