Launch of India’s Lunar Mission Chandrayaan-3 between July 12 & 19

New Delhi: Between July 13 and 19, the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission of ISRO will venture into space to reach the moon, if tests go as planned.  ISRO chairman S Somanath stated this at Kothavara St Xavier’s College, Vaikam in Kottayam district while launching a workshop and space exhibition organised by ISRO on Monday.

According to the ISRO chief, the Chandrayaan-3 has already reached the launch pad in Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. The final preparations for the launch will be complete by end of June.

The rocket, LVM-3, to be used for the launch of Chandrayaan-3 is being assembled.

He said that several measures have been taken to avoid any problems during the upcoming launch. More fuel was added and the landing legs have been strengthened. For producing more energy big solar panels have been fixed. And an additional sensor is also added. Changes have been made in the algorithm and new software has been added to help Chandrayaan to land in another area if there is any failure at the scheduled spot, said the ISRO chairman.

The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft would be launched by LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark-III) from Sriharikota. Chandrayaan-3 is a composite of three modules- propulsion, lander and rover.

The Lander would have the capability to soft land at a specified lunar site and deploy the Rover which would carry out in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface during the course of its mobility.

The main function of the propulsion module is to carry the lander module from launch vehicle injection till final lunar 100 km circular polar orbit and separate it.
