Murder of Pakistan’s Famous Hindu Doctor before Holi Celebrations

Dr Dharam Dev Raathi, a famous doctor residing in Pakistan’s Hyderabad was allegedly murdered by his driver inside his house on Tuesday, while the minority Hindus in this Islamic nation was preparing for the Holi celebrations. Quoting Pak police, Pakistan’s The Nation reported that the driver slit the doctor’s throat with a knife. Dr Dharam Dev Raathi was a famous dermatologist.

Pakistan police managed to arrest the accused driver on Wednesday at his home in Khairpur. The accused was identified as Hanif Leghari, who served the doctor as his driver.

According to eyewitnesses like the slain doctor’s cook, Hanif had an altercation with the doctor in the car. After they reached the doctor’s home, the driver took away a knife from the kitchen and killed the doctor with it. The killer driver then escaped from the spot in the doctor’s car.

Pakistan’s Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Giyan Chand Essarani praised the police for arresting the suspect within 24 hours. He also assured the slain doctor’s family that justice will be delivered.

The Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) women’s wing chief Faryal Talpur condemned the murder and called the incident “heartbreaking”. She also assured the doctor’s family that there will be justice.

She added that the incident was distressing, especially at a time when the Hindu community was celebrating Holi.
