Odia Mountaineer Sidharth Routray Summits Mount Elbrus, Europe’s Highest Peak

Bhubaneswar: Siddharth Routray climbed the 5642-metre-high Mount Elbrus in Russia at an extremely low temperature of -35 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

Due to bad weather, Routray had to return back just 1km away from the summit point on May 1. As the weather condition improved, Routray was able to reach the summit point at 9 am on Tuesday.

He reportedly wore a shirt made from Odisha’s Sambalpuri fabric and a cotton towel from the Khurda district at the mountain peak to declare his Odia identity.

He thanked Lord Jagannath and Lord Lingaraj for his successful expedition and also paid homage to martyred Odia jawan Debashis Biswal, who laid down his life in the Poonch terror attack recently.
