Odia Signboards, nameplates for All Educational Institutes in Odisha

Odisha government has directed all educational institutions in the state to have signboards and nameplates in Odia. Now it is mandatory for all the higher secondary schools, degree colleges, and universities to display their signboards and nameplates of faculty and authorities in correct Odia.

The Culture Department of Odisha issued this directive to all Higher Education Institutions (HEI) on Wednesday. The principal secretaries of both the Higher Education and School and Mass Education departments were asked to ensure that Odia language is used in the signboards and nameplates of all faculty members, non-teaching staff, and heads of the institutions.

As per the directive, the top portion of the signboards and nameplates have writing in Odia language, below it, English can be used in smaller font size. All institutions have to implement this order within next 30 days.

Director of Culture Department Ranjan Das said it is an effort to propagate and popularize the Odia language among students.

It may be noted that in 2018, the Odisha government made it mandatory for all public schools to put up signboards and nameplates in the Odia language. In August 2016, the state government enacted the rules of the Odisha Official Language Act, 1954, formally bringing it into force for official work in the Odia language.
