Odisha Government to Take up Welfare Schemes For Social Security of Drivers

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government is going to take up various welfare schemes for the social security of the drivers. State Minister for Commerce and Transport Tukuni Sahu informed about this during the Winter Session of Odisha Assembly.

While answering a question of MLA Nityananda Gond, Sahu said that the Odisha Driver’s Federation had submitted a memorandum to the government to address their demands. The department is taking up measures to work out the charter of demands.

She also added that the state government is all set to approve a draft list under the aegis of the Motor Transport Worker’s Welfare Scheme.

Similarly while answering a question raised by MLA  Devi Ranjan Tripathy, Tukuni Sahu said that the Motor Transport Worker’s Welfare, which is in the pipeline would include the provision of Life Insurance for the drivers.

“The Tourism Department has developed roadside utility centers and shelters for the drivers. Apart from it, the transport department is going to add some roadside shelter homes, utility centers, and truck terminals recently,” Sahu added.
