Odisha Police to Have SOP on Correct Behaviour Towards Army Personnel

Cuttack: Odisha police would soon have a standard operating procedure (SOP) for police regarding appropriate behaviour towards army personnel at the police stations. It was informed to the Orissa High Court on Tuesday while the state government put forward its views while the High Court was hearing a PIL related to the manhandling of an Army captain and his fiancée at the Bharatpur police station.

The police also made it clear that they are examining the modalities for the SOP.

The next hearing will take place after four weeks.

Odisha police faced much backlash after an Army captain of the 22 Sikh Regiment and his fiancee were assaulted at the Bharatpur police station. They had reached the police station to complain of a road rage on the night of September 14 and September 15.

Odisha police ordered a crime branch inquiry into the alleged manhandling case. A judicial commission is also probing the matter. Five police personnel, including the then inspector of Bharatpur police station are put under suspension.
