Online Betting Loss: Young Couple’s Suicide Attempt; Wife Dead, Husband Critical

Berhampur: A couple allegedly attempted suicide at their residence in Dengadi under Patpur police limits in Ganjam district on Monday. While the wife died on the spot, her husband is battling for life at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

The victims have been identified as Nilendri Mohanty and his wife Jaysen Mohanty. The couple was married just two years ago.

According to reports, both Nilendri and Jaysen worked as teachers. While Nilendri was a teacher at Kachkhandi High Primary School in Berhampur, Jaysen worked in a school outside the district.

Upon being informed, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation in this regard.

Though the exact reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the couple allegedly attempted suicide over losses in the online betting game.
