Over 20 Students Fall Ill during Musical Chair Rehearsal in Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: At least twenty students became ill suddenly during a rehearsal for a sports competition in Soro municipality of Odisha’s Balasore district. The incident has come to the fore from Badakhuri UGUPs Middle English School in Soro.

According to sources, students of class 6, 7, and 8 were playing musical chairs when many of the children started complaining of uneasiness. As the situation started getting worst, teachers rushed them to the local hospital. Some female students, who became critical were referred to the district headquarters hospital.

“My schoolmates were taken ill one after the other. All of them started feeling uneasy and complained of nausea during the musical chair rehearsal,” one of the students said.

“The students were playing musical chairs when some of them sat down and complained of breathlessness. This was barely 10-15 minutes into playing the sport. We noticed the students panting and sitting down and immediately shifted them to the hospital,” said the school staff.

The cause of illness is not yet ascertained but it is suspected that the situation occurred due to the consumption of contaminated food at either their homes or school. The investigation is underway.
