Paanwala’s Daughter Becomes Sub-Collector; Secures 21st Rank in UPPSC Exam

Lucknow: Jyoti Chaurasia, the daughter of a Paan shop owner secured 21st rank in the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) exam. She has been appointed as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in UP’s Gonda district.

Failing to get a good job, Jyoti’s father, Hem Chand Chaurasia, originally from Deoria district, had opened a Paan shop on February 17, 1997 in Gonda to support his family. Later in 2000, he had brought Jyoti and her brother to Gonda for studies.

Jyoti’s elder brother had also aspired for some alternate profession, but due to poverty he had to help his father in the Paan shop.

Jyoti completed her education in Gonda and moved to Lucknow to prepare for the UPPSC exams. Despite financial constraints and health problems, she did not give up. She cracked the UPPSC exam in her 6th attempt. Jyoti desires to serve the economically weaker sections of society.
